No, David Jo borrowed in from the Shangri-Las, though he wears it well. The Dolls were clearly Shangri-Las fans though: "Too Much Too Soon" was produced by Shagri-Las mastermind Shadow Morton, and I believe they covered "Out In the Streets" in their reunion show.
I think Bill, the MM drummer, got a good NY 70s feel on our version.
