How about "Snuff"? Had and lost a little kitty yesterday. Mira found it in the school basement. The mama was gone and there were two little corpses nearby. This one came home and lied on my chest, eyes still closed, snuffling and wriggling. It's head was the size of my thumb nail. Took it to the vet -- chances were poor. It couldn't eat and had trouble breathing. Brought it home and died soon after. That leaves us with our current four: Patch, the mad mama; Bella, her daughter from the first litter -- dulcet-toned; Bob, from the second litter, recently broke his leg and sports a cast on his left front paw; and Tim, his brother -- always hungry, and desirous of whatever someone else is eating. Dear crazy Juhu died a couple of months ago -- an accident with a car probably.

Admirable brevity. The last line should be the shortest though: how about, "gone"

Yum?
Sorry about the kitty, but the odds were not good there.
I know there are millions of people in Mumbai, but I hope no one you know is extinguished/gone/snuffed
