I think that Mumbai may be in the future, I forget how the International Dateline falls but I think it may already be the 2nd in India, in which case it’s not too early to wish Jimmy a happy birthday or if I’ve gotten it backwards then I can be the first. Happy birthday Jim. We’re all brothers on tomorrow.

Indeed, many happy returns, and all that rot.

Thanks - I can feel the love, no joke.
Had ordered a couple of books and a CD from Amazon some time back and they showed up today. Birthday presents to myself.
The books are by a poet named August Kleinzahler, Jersey boy. Do you know his stuff? I like what I've read so far. (The two books I've gotten are "The Strange Hours Travelers Keep" and "Cutty, One Rock". The first is poems and the second autobiographical prose.)
The CD is Dan Hicks' "Selected Shorts", with the promise of "no song too long".
Coincidentally - or is it? - both Kleinzahler and Hicks make the Bay Area their home.
Jim, I dig the photos. You should consider disguising yourself as Albert Gonzalez or whatever his name is for your next stint. Suit, dapper little mustache, well-groomed hairpiece and an endearing south of the border accent. Si, seƱor, I cannot swi-im so very we-ell, etc. I am not thirsty, and so on.

Thanks for the poetry recommendations. Your Gonzalez suggestion is being done, in some form by the Bush Chain Gang (http://backbonecampaign.org/chaingang.cfm) and others. I'll keep you posted on our next event. There will probably be video available.
peace,
jim

Gonzales during the wiretapping hearings reminded me of a Tex-Mex Peter Lorre: Yes sir, that is correct sir, no sir, I'm so sorry sir but I'm afraid I shall have to have your balls cut off sir, that's right sir.

I've seen August Kleinzahler's books around and I just now realized that I had been confusing him with NY art-dealer Henry Goldzahler. I'll have to grab one next time I see it.

Dan Hicks actually played the Yolo COunty Fair a few years ago. Since I didn't think he'd do "I'm just a waitress at the donut shop" I didn't go to see him.
