Today is Jimmy's birthday, so here's a little poem for him:

Today is Jimmy's birthday
The party's in Mumbai
He is the sort of sterling friend
Who's very hard to come by.

Happy birthday Jymn. We created it, let's take it over.

Thank you very much Henry, that reminds me of the time ... war fever rising ...

And to add a seasonal touch for grandchildren everywhere, "Why sure, honey" (here I drift off and fade out to Chestnuts roasting on an open fire)

I want a Grandpa Christmas every year...every year...every year...

By the way, I had the chance to scroll through past postings while trying to retrieve my user name/password from the cobwebs of my mind. I was happily surprised by your musing on whether or not I've finished Gibbon. No is the answer. But he figures amongst the volumes that we've brought with us here -- carry him everywhere, like a household god. In good company with Churchill's four volume history of Marlborough (a winner) and Gerhardie's extensive history of the Romanovs. Am currently reading, apropos Gibbon, Burckhardt's "Age of Constantine". Pretty good.
