I finally, at the age of 51, heard "Blue Jeans and Moonbeams". It's not as awful as I had expected, though it's certainly not very good Beefheart. It's strange that both he and Bryan Ferry covered JJ Cale's "Same Old Blues".
You're right. That is strange. I don't remember Moonbeams at all, though I did listen to it once or twice at the time. I remember its ignoble predecessor that pictured the Captain lustily gripping dollar bills on the cover with the cynical heading "Love Over Gold". I remember though the opening cut, Upon the My oh My, actually sounded OK, though weak.
